Asiago Golf Club and Meltar Golf Resort
IntroductionYou can visit one of the finest mountain golf courses in Europe, the Asiago Golf Club. The layout of the golf club was designed by an expert in mountain golf courses called Peter Harradine, who had vast experience in designing mountain golf courses. The greatest advantage of the golf course is that even though it is located in the mountains, the actual golf is played on a relatively plain surface of the Plateau that follows a gentle panoramic course. There aren’t many differences in height which ensures that the players can always play with their feet on level ground. The Golf course was originally built in 1960 with just nine holes and was designed by J. Harris. The course has been totally renewed since and now has 18 holes. The many advantages of the surrounding environment helped in the success of the huge project and the whole work was completed with maintaining the surrounding environment of the golf club.
History of Golf Club AsiagoThe Asiago Tourist Board in 1960 got in touch with many large European companies with the aim of getting elements which would allow the resort to be included in the grand international circuit. An inspector was sent to the area and after visiting the area and checking tourist facilities in Asiago and Plateau they indicated three points necessary for developing the region into an international level. These included building a good hotel, enhancing the Asiago airport, and developing a golf course which they thought would be simple due to the Plateau.
The actual construction work began with determination and overcoming many difficulties. Many of the locals were skeptical and even hostile. For studying the project, a British company was selected in 1961 but the land actually became available in 1963. The Asiago Tourist Board then had to tackle the financial issues with an expected expense close to 50 million Lire. After overcoming this difficulty the work finally began in 1965. Lots of trees were planted around in addition to the existing trees. Actual playing on the course began in the year 1967 and the Asiago Golf Club was founded. All the players visiting the club agreed that this was one of the finest golf courses in Europe. In 1990 the course was enlarged and redesigned to 18 holes.
